…Hail Uzodinma’s Legacy
As political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 Imo State gubernatorial election, prominent leaders from Owerri Zone, under the banner of the Owerri Zone Leaders of Thought, have unanimously called for the governorship to be ceded to their zone.
This resolution was reached during the group’s second leadership meeting, held on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at the Civic Center residence of Prince Charles Amadi (Charlvon). The meeting brought together key political figures, stakeholders, and party loyalists across the zone.
In a joint communiqué signed by Prince Charles Amadi, Chief Sir Henry Njoku (Harritex), Prince Alex Mbata, and others, the group expressed profound gratitude to Governor Hope Uzodimma for the infrastructural transformation and inclusive leadership witnessed under his 3R Shared Prosperity Administration.
They emphasized that Owerri Zone has greatly benefited from the Governor’s developmental agenda and now deserves, in the spirit of fairness and the Imo Charter of Equity, to produce the next Governor in 2027.
Chief Sir Henry Njoku stressed the importance of unity in Owerri Zone and urged stakeholders to embrace Governor Uzodimma’s gesture of reconciliation and inclusion. He recalled that the Imo Elders Council had already endorsed the Charter of Equity, which was formalized by an executive bill and passed into law by the 9th Imo Assembly, making the Owerri 2027 project a just and non-negotiable one.
Prince Charles Amadi reaffirmed his belief that a worthy successor must come from Owerri Zone—someone who will continue Governor Uzodimma’s vision of prosperity and development. He described the ongoing political goodwill as an opportunity Owerri must fully leverage.
Also speaking, Prince Alex Mbata noted that the zone had consistently benefited from Uzodimma’s administration and should remain steadfast in its support to ensure continuity and consolidation of achievements.
Prince Lemmy Akakem, Vice Chairman of the Imo Elders Council, described the quest for an Owerri Zone Governor as a divine mission. He urged the zone to position itself strategically to take up leadership in line with the Governor’s equity-driven policy.
Okenze S.I. Obinna and Prince Marcel Nlemigbo called for massive grassroots sensitization and mobilization around the Charter of Equity, emphasizing that political victories are secured from the ground up. They expressed confidence that Owerri Zone possesses the necessary resources and unity to deliver on this goal.
In separate remarks, Senator Francis Ezenwa Onyewuchi, General Chikwe (Rtd.), Chief Uzoma Obiyo, and Hon. Barr. Enyinna Onuegbu emphasized that Uzodimma’s successor must be a person of integrity—someone capable of building on his legacy. They thanked the Governor for his commitment to Owerri Zone and called for continued support for the Shared Prosperity agenda.

The meeting ended with a renewed commitment by Owerri Zone leaders to work collectively, mobilize across the state, and ensure that justice, equity, and the rotational principle guide the emergence of the next Governor of Imo State.
