…advise Gov. Uzodinma
The National Union of Imo State Students (NUISS) extends her deepest condolences to the families of the victims of the tragic accident that occurred on the 18th of May, 2024, at the IMSU junction.
Recall that a large truck collided with two mini buses loading passengers at the IMSU junction, resulting in the loss of about eight precious lives and leaving several others in critical condition.
The national President of Imo state students, Comrade Benjamin Anochie disclosed that among those who lost their lives were a beloved lecturer and two students of Imo State University, whose dedication to education and the students’ community will be deeply missed.
Anochie said that the thoughts and prayers of the union are with the bereaved families during this incredibly difficult time as he also wished a swift and full recovery to those injured and currently receiving treatment in the hospital.
In a press release made public, the NUISS President called for increased safety measures around busy intersections and bus stops to prevent such devastating incidents in the future.
A section of the press release reads thus:
“We stand united in support of our amiable National Grand Patron and Governor of Imo state; Senator Hope Uzodinma, while thanking him for swiftly setting up a panel of inquiry to probe the cause of the ugly incident, we advise him to:
- Direct the immediate stoppage of loading of passengers 40metres within IMSU junction.
- Direct the immediate creation of bumps, 20metres and 30metres to the IMSU junction as it will help regulate speed limit of vehicles within the Students surged environment.”
Anochie urged all Imo students to prioritize safety and vigilance as he prayed the souls of the departed rest in peace and equally prayed that their families find the strength to endure this profound loss.
