No appointee will take salary before pensioners, civil servants – Otti vows

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has issued a directive emphasizing the priority of timely salary payments to civil servants and pensioners over political office holders in the state.

In his Easter message to Abia citizens, Governor Otti expressed deep concern over the prolonged delays in pension payments endured by retirees under previous administrations.

Governor Otti acknowledged the immense contributions of pensioners who dedicated their productive years in service to the state, lamenting their unjust treatment in being deprived of their entitled pensions for an extended period. He emphasized, “It is indeed regrettable that these great men and women (pensioners), who toiled for the State at the peak of their productive years were owed for so long.”

With a firm commitment to rectify this injustice, Governor Otti announced his directive, stating, “I have since directed that full pensions must be paid on or before the 28th of every month, the very same day civil servants in the State get their salaries.” Furthermore, he emphasized on a new policy, affirming, “As a rule, political office holders will only be paid after our obligations to our senior citizens and civil servants have been fulfilled, in full.”

Expressing gratitude to the Nigerian Union of Pensioners in the State for their unwavering support, Governor Otti reiterated his administration’s dedication to the welfare of Abia citizens. He highlighted the state’s improved security landscape, inviting both indigenes and visitors to explore investment opportunities in Abia without apprehension.

In his commitment to comprehensive development, Governor Otti assured, “Abia has become one of the safest states in the country,” and pledged, “no part of the state would be left undeveloped under my watch.” He extended Easter greetings to the people of Abia and Christians worldwide, reaffirming his administration’s resolve to prioritize the well-being and progress of the state.
