Oghenekowhoyan Onaibe Desmond, famously known as Destalker in the Nigerian comedy scene, recently shared his experience of facing jealousy from his colleagues after winning his first “Best Comedian of the Year” award.
During his appearance on the Afrobeats Podcast hosted by Shopsydoo, Destalker revealed that his success was met with envy from some of his peers, notably mentioning FunnyBone’s skepticism about his longevity in the industry. According to Destalker, FunnyBone predicted that he wouldn’t last long, comparing his career trajectory to that of Akpororo, another comedian.
Destalker recounted how FunnyBone openly expressed doubts about his future in comedy, suggesting that he would fade away within six months, similar to Akpororo’s purported decline. However, undeterred by the skepticism, Destalker remained focused on his craft and proved his critics wrong by winning the same award for four consecutive years.
His story highlights the challenges faced by comedians in the competitive entertainment industry and underscores the importance of perseverance and determination in the face of criticism and doubt. Despite the initial skepticism from his colleagues, Destalker’s resilience and talent ultimately propelled him to continued success in the comedy scene.
